Aaron Arthur Glenn Sr., 80, after brave, hard-fought battles with multiple illnesses, departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of December 22, 2022, in Columbus, Mississippi. He was surrounded by family as they
expressed to him their love, appreciation, and his importance to the Glenn family, which he acknowledged, as he peacefully transitioned to heaven.
Arthur, as his family and friends referred to him, was considered a patriarch within the family. He was the son of Idella Glenn and Mark Lowe; the grandson of James and Alma Jones Glenn; the great grandson of Reuben and Alice Hamilton Greenlee Glenn; the great great grandson of Rev. Jesse Hamilton (aka Hamp) and Jane Glenn. This traditional African American family lineage has been traced back to at least the very early 1800s in the United States of America.
Arthur was a resident of Columbus and was employed by General Tire in his early days and later went on to become a successful commercial truck driver for 50 years working for companies such as Heatherly Moving Van Lines, Mid-South Trucking, and Gulf States Trucking which allowed him to travel extensively across the USA. He often made it a point to visit family during his travels. One of his key career accomplishments included achieving awards and recognition in 2010 for achieving more than two million safe driving miles before retiring. After retirement he drove the school bus for the Lowndes County School District where he was cherished by his students. They referred to him as "the coolest bus driver ever". Arthur was a life-long member of the OLS (Opportunity, Love, & Support) social club whose activities included sponsoring community sports such as little league baseball teams, along with men and women's adult softball, and basketball teams as a community service
He was a family man who believed in God and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Arthur was a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church (Columbus, MS) where he served as Chairman of the Trustees for more than 20 years and served on the Finance committee for several years.
Arthur is survived by Nancy, his devoted and loving wife of 25 years; by his sons Aaron (Claudette) Arthur Glenn Jr., Derrick A. Glenn, daughter Demetrice D. Glenn, stepdaughter Linda K. Hester; stepchildren Taffurya
(Steven) Cunningham, Tymechie (Katherine) Anthony, and Tremata Anthony from his union with his wife Nancy. He is also survived by sisters Linda Patterson, Camille Phillips, Pamela Darnell, Marie (Michael) Lowe
Whitfield, Angela Denise Lowe, Barbara Jean (Derrick) Lowe, Sylvia (Richard) Lowe Hill and brothers Larry (Michelle) Lowe, Mack Arthur (Mary) Lowe, Alvin (Kim) Lowe, William (Metra) Lowe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Idella Darnell and Mark Oliver Lowe Sr, grandparents James and Alma Glenn, sisters, Elaine Darnell, Peggy Ann (Robert) Lowe Jones, and brothers, Jed Wayne (Ann) Lowe, Michael Ellis (Lorita) Lowe, Mark Oliver (Barbara Faye) Lowe Jr. Aaron Arthur Glenn Sr. leaves behind numerous beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and close friends as well as his dear uncle, Albert (Lillie) Glenn, who is the last living elder of the James and Alma Jones Glenn family.
