Mrs. Annie Will Harris was born on September 27, 1942 in Crawford, Mississippi, to the late Jim Perry, Sr., and Pattie James Perry.
She accepted Christ at an early age while attending Prairie Grove Church and later joined Sixth Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Otis Johnson.
Deeply devoted to her faith, Mrs. Harris found joy in sharing the love of God with everyone around her. Her spiritual life was the foundation of her strength and joy, and she believed that a smile was one of the best ways to express God's love. Her faith was evident in everything she did—from her warm, welcoming presence to the countless hours she spent in prayer and service to others.
Before embarking on a diverse career path, she was celebrated as an exceptional homemaker and seamstress, renowned for her meticulous craftsmanship and warm hospitality. She devoted herself to caring for her children, supporting her siblings, and maintaining a home that was both beautiful and welcoming. Her skillful hands transformed everyday tasks into works of art, from beautifully stitched garments to lovingly prepared meals. Her dedication to her family was evident in every corner of her home, which she adorned with her own creations. As life evolved, she transitioned into roles at Hughes Elementary School and Woolco, where the joy she exuded earned her the nickname "Smiley." Her career journey culminated in a cherished position as a cake decorator and trainer at Kroger, where she continued to spread joy through her artistry. Each stage of her professional life showcased her versatility and unwavering commitment, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and care that touched many lives.
Mrs. Harris was also a dedicated community member whose involvement spanned several key organizations. She was a cherished member of the Usher Board, Senior Choir, Deaconess, and Motherboard, contributing significantly to Sixth Avenue Baptist Church. Her commitment extended to civic engagement through the Voter's League and the So and Sew Social Club, a beloved savings group. Mrs. Harris also played a crucial role in neighborhood safety as part of the local Concerned Citizens group. Her legacy of service and community spirit will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Harris is preceded in death by her parents Jim Perry, Sr. and Pattie James Perry, her son Ollie Orlando Harris, and her siblings J.C. Perry & Robert Lee Perry.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her husband of 64 years Ollie James Harris; children, Janet Harris Stevenson, Francine Harris, Edward (Gwen) Harris, Melinda (Leonardo) Harris Floyd and Melissa (Jeffrey) Harris Carter; grandchildren, Rico Harris, Andrea (Larry) Harris - Hyde, Jessica Harris, Devin Harris, Aaron Harris, Latricia Harris, Olivia Jackson, Candace Carter, Kayla Carter, Tia Floyd and DaVinci Floyd; great grandchildren, De'Arius Harris, Audrianna Jackson, Nyema Johnson, Kharmin Harris, Jamyrah Harris, A'Ziyah Harris, Blaire Harris, Fenix Harris, Madison Harris, Mason Harris, Kaylee Webb, Major Harris, and Khylee Harris; great great grandchild, Kensley Harris; Siblings, Jim Perry, Jr., Anne Perry, Louis Perry, and Pattie Will (Arthur) Harris; aunts Laura Saulsberry and Charlene Perry; childhood friend, Julia Lucas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Though she may have left this world, her legacy of love, laughter, and faith will forever remain in our hearts. In honor of her life, we ask that you take a moment to smile today—just as Mrs. Harris would have wanted.
