Anthony
Sykes
November 5, 1967 – February 1, 2026
Anthony Sykes, known to family and friends as "Chabubba," 58, of Aberdeen, Mississippi, died February 1, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was born November 5, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois, the beloved son of Bennie and Essie Dean Sykes.
Anthony's life was rooted in faith, family, and service. He accepted Christ as his personal savior and attended Freewill Church of God in Christ. He continued his faith walk in Christ at St. John Church of God in Christ, Reed's Temple Church of God in Christ, Cathedral Praise Church of God in Christ, and most recently, New Life Missionary Baptist Church.
Educated for a lifetime of learning, Anthony earned both his Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree and Master of Public Administration from Governors State University in Park, IL. He was employed for many years providing community-based services with various companies as well as management with staff, patients, and resources in the non-profit social services sector.
Anthony's love extended beyond his career and faith. He cherished his family and friends, enjoyed lively conversations on the phone, and delighted in sharing moments of joy with those around him. He had a special appreciation for Gail King on CBS Mornings, a small detail that reflected his curiosity about the world and the everyday moments that bring people together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Essie Dean Sykes.
Anthony leaves to cherish his memories: his sister, Stacey Sykes; and his nephews, Bennie and Anthony Sykes; life partner, Requita E. Sykes; along with a host of other relatives and friends whose lives were brighter because of his kindness, generosity, and generous spirit.
Anthony's remembrance will live on in the stories told, the laughter shared, and the quiet acts of love he extended to others. Though he is no longer with us, his faith, his intellect, and his warmth remain a steady presence in the hearts of all who knew him.
