Arthur “James” Greer, Jr. was born on July 28, 1940, to Gennie and Arthur Greer, Sr. in Holly Springs, MS. He was the second oldest of seven children, two boys and five girls. He first accepted Christ at an early age while attending Morning Star M.B. Church in Holly Springs, MS where he served faithfully.

Arthur remained in his hometown until early adulthood after receiving his high school diploma from Sims High School in 1961 and attending Mississippi Industrial College (MI) where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1964. He successfully paid for and completed his college studies while also working as a heavy machine operator for Clay Products Incorporated. Shortly after college, he began a long and successful career as a high school STEM educator; working within the Tate County School system in Senatobia, MS, Rust College in Holly Springs, MS, and the Lowndes County and Columbus City School systems in Columbus, MS until retirement.

It was during their Freshman year in college that Arthur met and began courting his college sweetheart, Alma Shaw of Caledonia, MS while she attended nearby Rust College; the two married on January 5, 1964. Their union was blessed for 62years, and together they raised three children: Constance, Cornelius (Dale), and Craig.

Arthur remained a devoted husband and father throughout his lifetime and is well remembered as a man of quiet strength who lead thru consistency, humility, and faith – qualities often most deeply felt within the family. He was a deep believer of Christ and lived out his values daily.

Arthur Greer departed this life on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at his home while surrounded by his loving family, friends, and fellow church members. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gennie and Arthur Greer, Sr, siblings; Dorothy Green, Sarah Rogers, Charles Walls, Helen Anderson, and Ruth Rashada.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Alma Greer; children, Constance Cook of Caledonia, MS, Cornelius Dale (Erica) Greer of Benton Harbour, MI, and Craig Greer of Memphis, TN; siblings Sammie Greer, Sr. of Holly Springs, MS and Rena Thigpin of Memphis, TN; in-laws Albert and Lillie Glenn, Sr. of Memphis, TN, Lardell and Ruth Shaw, Sr. of Caledonia, MS, Coleta Inge of Los Angeles, CA, Nellie Thomas of Cordova, TN, Edna Harrison of Memphis, TN, and Dorthia Greene of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Corey (Brittany) Laster of Knoxville, TN, Cortney Laster of Louisville, TN, Anthony Greer of New Orleans, LA, Cedric Cook of Medford, OR, Cian Greer of Newnan, GA, Gregory Greer of Nashville, TN, Aundrea Greer of Knoxville, TN, Kennedy Greer of Memphis, TN, and Brianna Greer of Knoxville, TN.
