Obituary

Mrs. Beatrice Brooks Wallace was born January 18, 1937 in Somerville, Tennessee to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ed and Emma Jane Brooks. A loving daughter, cherished sister, beloved wife, devoted mother, adored grandmother and a loyal friend – her presence brought laughter, warmth, and comfort to all who knew her.

A native of Fayetteville County, Somerville, she attended Fayetteville County Training Elementary and High Schools. She sang in the Glee Club Choir and narrated many p[lays and pageants in church and school. She won the first Spelling Bee in the County with 35 students participating. She was an honor roll student, each semester from elementary through high school.

She was a member of the Wesley Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME) in Somerville, where she attended Sunday School and Church, and served as secretary for in both areas. She sang in the church’s choir and served as a delegate to many District Conferences representing Wesley.

On completion of high school, Beatrice’s goal was to become a teacher. Her desire to teach derived from the inspiration of her second-grade teacher and her parents. She enrolled at Mississippi Industrial College (M.I.C.), located in Holly Springs, Mississippi, majoring in Elementary Education and minoring in English. She graduated from M.I.C. with a Bachelor of Science Degree and immediately began teaching in Pamola County, Mississippi in the City of Como. Later she was transferred to Stone Street Elementary School, where she met her husband, Rev. William Wallace, Sr., who served as Pastor of Jennings Temple CME Church, in Greenwood, Mississippi.

The Lord blessed Rev. and Mrs. Wallace to be in the midst of plenty of children, some of who were her students. Inspired by God and the children, Rev. and Mrs. Wallace organized a Children’s Choir, for ages 4 through 11. Mrs. Wallace served as Children’s Choir Director, a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, and a member of the Senior Choir.

In 1971, Rev. and Mrs. Wallace transferred to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she began teaching at Hamiliton and Barbe Elementary Schools in Calcasieu Parish. After residing there for 4 years, she was challenged, encouraged, and inspired by faculty members and her husband to grasp the opportunity to do further studies at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There she earned her Master’s degree in Elementary Education. With the help of God, Beatrice was presented with another opportunity to attend McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, earning 12 hours above the Master’s Level in Reading. She taught Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades for 21 years in Louisiana, which was truly a wonderful, challenging, and fruitful experience. Mrs. Wallace retired from Barbe Elementary School.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 68 years, Elder William Wallace, Sr., two sons, Dr. William (Meumona) Wallace, Jr., Williamsburg, VA; Karl (Leslie) Wallace, Spartanburg, SC; one daughter, Tina (Andre) Lee, Anderson, SC; two granddaughters, Natascha (Benjamin) Wallace; Adriane Wallace; five grandsons, Joseph (Erica), Clayton, Jr, JaMario Wallace, Quentin (Jewel) Wallace; William B. Wallace, and George B. Wallace; Eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Jeffries, Kansas City, KS,. and Ruth (Alfred) Patterson, Detroit, MI; nephew, Carroll (Lewis) Brooks of Memphis, TN. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
