Bennie W.
Taylor
April 28, 1937 – January 10, 2024
Bennie Will Taylor was born April 28, 1937 in Lowndes County, MS., to Ben and Lula Taylor. He was the second oldest of four children. He was a hard worker his whole life, from working as a butcher in the local meat house as a young man to laying cement and brick laying work. He was apart of the Laborers Local Union 751. He retired from his lead maintenance position at the state hospital in Manteno, IL., in 1995. He then started his own business Taylor Concrete. He loved working with his hands gardening, fishing, hunting and grilling; often times putting others to work showing them how it was done properly. He was a member of Fair Haven Church of God In Christ in Kankakee, IL., and 16th Section Missionary Baptist Church in Starkville, MS. He was a respected Prince Hall Mason. He was a pillar in his community. He would pitch his big white tent each year at the Stevie Hunter festival. When you seen that tent you knew you'd be tasting some of the best barbecue this side of the Mississippi. A few years later he was apart of the Pembroke Rodeo. Everyone loved to see BT, some of his children and grandchildren would tag along to help, sometimes to get a meal and other times because they just loved to be around him. He didn't mind helping others when needed. He took his final rest on January 10, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Rosie Lee Taylor. His children Rosie Taylor of Kankakee, IL., Lula Taylor of Kankakee, IL., Dianne (Sam) Jordan of Kankakee, IL., Willie (Christine) Williams of Columbus, MS., Perk Taylor of Forstville, MD., Johnny Taylor of Forestville, MD., Bonnie (Mose) Sextion of Kankakee, IL., DeVora (Sam) Sykes of Chesapeake, VA., Darry (Regina) Jackson of Bourbonnais, IL., Mary Taylor of Kankakee, IL., Sheila (Jesse) Jackson of Phoenix, AZ., Bennie (Frankie) Jackson of Kankakee, IL., Huey Irvin of Jonesboro, AR., Anthony Jackson of Phoenix, AZ., Victor Irvin of St. Anne, IL., and Necole Ellis of Starkville, MS.
