Catina Denise Rice, a radiant spirit whose life was a testament to faith, joy, and unwavering love, concluded her earthly journey, leaving behind a legacy cherished by all who knew her. Born on January 17, 1973, in Macon, MS, she was the beloved daughter of West Jr, and Linda Malone.
From her early years, Catina embraced her faith, confessing her love for Christ and becoming a steadfast, lifelong member of Oakland M.B. Church. Her voice, a melodic gift, graced the church choir as one of its lead singers, a resonant expression of her spiritual devotion and the joy she found in worship.
After graduating from West Lowndes High School in 1991, Catina dedicated her compassionate heart to nurturing young minds. As an assistant teacher and bus monitor for Coleman Headstart and ICS Headstart, she profoundly touched the lives of countless children, guiding them with a gentle hand and a dedicated spirit.
Beyond her steadfast commitment to faith and profession, Catina's vibrant personality shone brightly. She possessed an infectious joy and a deep zest for life, often expressed through her beloved dancing, a true embodiment of her lively spirit. Her warmth extended to her digital community on Facebook, where she fostered connections with friends and family, and her engaging presence was also known to radio listeners, eager to share her voice and thoughts with the community.
Catina was welcomed into eternal peace by those who preceded her, including her cherished grandparents, Jessie B. Rice, Burl Rice, Sally Malone, and West Malone, Sr. and a precious niece Lakandice Jackson.
Her radiant light will continue to shine in the hearts of her devoted parents, West Jr. and Linda Malone of Crawford, MS. Catina's profound love and cherished memories will forever be carried by her beloved son, Kovi Rice Sr. of Acworth, GA, and her four adored grandchildren, Kaylei Rice, Kovi Rice, Jr., Kahari Rice all of Columbus, MS and Lasadra D. Metheny of Macon, MS, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Fredrick Rice of Baltimore, MD; Shondra (Kenneth) Peoples, Latonya Malone, Kesha Malone all of Crawford, MS, Antonio Malone of Columbus, MS and Bradwick (Lawonda) Malone of Lithia Springs, GA. Her fiancé, John A. Short, III of Crawford MS, nephew Kaleb Peoples; nieces Myisha McGee, Shardashia Jackson, GracieWells, Kenya People, Madison Jackson, Alika Wilburn and Avery Malone also remains to cherish her memory, alongside a wide circle of aunts, uncles, other relatives, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
