Cecilia Weatherby
Bradley
January 10, 1951 – January 5, 2023
On January 10, 1951, Cecilia Weatherby-Bradley was born to the late Sanders and Violet Weatherby in Columbus, MS. The Lord called her home on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Her crown awaited her.
At an early age, she gave her life to Christ. She was baptized at Second Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.L. Clay. She was currently a member of Greater Mt. Zion Church of Columbus. Her favorite song was, "His Eye is on A Sparrow", which she was known for beautifully singing.
Cecilia was a daughter of Mississippi in the truest sense. She was proud of her southern roots, loved her family deeply, and sought out her favorite foods every chance she got. She loved catfish, greens and cornbread, and Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.
After Cecilia graduated high school from R.E. Hunt in 1969, she attended Rust College, in Holly Springs, Mississippi on a music scholarship. She later traveled to Battle Creek, Michigan to join her sister Loretta. She made a beautiful life in Michigan where she lived for 52 years.
In 1972, she married the love of her life, the late Richard A. Bradley. This marriage flourished for twenty-three years, until Richard's death in 1995. Cecilia and Richard had two children, Tia Louise, born in 1975 and Derrick Edward, born in 1980 who lost his battle to Leukemia in 1983.
She was one of the Lord's helpers.
Cecilia was always blessing those around her with her giving nature and beautiful smile. God called her to be a registered nurse, which she did for over 30 years, including employment at the Veteran's Hospital and Battle Creek Health Systems, in Battle Creek Michigan. Nursing wasn't just her profession, it was who she was. She received countless letters from patients and family members who were comforted by her presence and excellent care. She also built lifelong friendships with hospital colleagues, who became her second family.
Cecilia was an overcomer who was strengthened by her faith in God. Despite adversities and challenges throughout her life, she remained resilient. She finished nursing school despite losing her son to Leukemia in 1983. She was also a breast cancer survivor who spoke at local and national events. Her message of hope helped strengthen others.
Preceding her in death were her son, Derrick Bradley; husband, Richard Bradley; One brother, Pastor Simeon T. Weatherby, Sr.; one sister, Sandra Weatherby; her parents, Sanders Weatherby, Sr. and Violet Weatherby.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by: her daughter, Tia Bradley, of Atlanta, GA; five sisters, Loretta Lee (Steve), Debra Scott (Willie), Sharon Blevins (Kenneth), Mia Johnson (Doran), and Cassandra Neal (Henry); one brother, Sanders Weatherby, Jr.; one aunt, Judy Lewis, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
