Obituary

Cora Bell Richardson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, was born on March 6, 1938, in Cleveland, Mississippi, to Jimmie Richardson and Naomi Jones Richardson.

She departed this life on August 13, 2025, in Columbus, Mississippi, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and compassion.
Cora spent her early years in the Mississippi Delta, where she cultivated a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and the joy of community. She was baptized and began her Christian journey at an early age.  She received early education in the Cleveland Consolidated School District and entered the workforce as a domestic helper for the President and Dean of Delta State University and others.  Over 30 years ago, she relocated to Columbus, MS, where she became an integral part of the local community and a cherished member of Zion Gate M.B. Church. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she shared her love for God with all who knew her.

A woman of many talents, Cora had a passion for making jewelry, creating beautiful floral arrangements, and nurturing her garden. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she delighted family and friends with her delicious meals, often prepared with love and care. Cora was known for her hardworking spirit and her unwavering dedication to those around her, particularly the special needs community, whom she served with kindness and compassion in her spare time.

Cora was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved son, JW Richardson; father to her children, (J.D. Moore); four brothers, Roosevelt, Sylvester, Leroy, and Jimmy Jr.; and her sister, Georgia Mae Richardson.

She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memories: her children, Yvonne (Willie) Hudson of Columbus, MS, Dennis Richardson of Atlanta, GA, Harold Moore, Donald (Val) Richardson, and Ronald (Glenda) Richardson, all of Columbus, MS, and Shervonna Richardson of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by four grandchildren; her brother, Ivory Richardson of Weiden, Germany; sister, Shirley Wilson of St. Louis, MO; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.  Her dear and faithful caregiver, Gracie Ann Brown.
