Douglas Hairston, affectionately known as “Doug,” peacefully departed this life on July 26, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 64 years old.

Born in Columbus, Mississippi, on July 27, 1961, Doug was the youngest son of eight children born to the late Norah and Ozie Hairston. He was the beloved fraternal twin brother of Donald Hairston, who preceded him in death 30 years ago.

Doug spent nearly his entire life in Columbus, Mississippi, with the exception of proudly serving his country in the United States Army. He was well known throughout the community as a talented local chef and a lifelong entrepreneur whose passion for food and business touched many lives.

Doug will be lovingly remembered by his devoted son, Damien Hampton; his three cherished granddaughters; three sisters; one brother; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.

Known for his warm personality, quick wit, and infectious sense of humor, Doug had a remarkable ability to make others smile. He was a fun-loving man who always had something funny to say, bringing laughter and joy wherever he went. Even during his battle with cancer, he faced each day with courage, grace, and an unwavering lighthearted spirit that inspired everyone around him.

Doug’s legacy of love, laughter, resilience, and determination will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever be cherished by those blessed to have shared in his life.
