Obituary

Ella Mae Taylor was born in Ethelsville, Alabama, on February 29, 1948, to Sam Frank Nash, Sr. and Laura Bell Nash.  Ella was affectionately called "Mae" by family and friends. She accepted Christ at an early age at El Bethel M.B. Church in Columbus, MS.

Mae graduated from R. E. Hunt High School in 1967 then later met and married Russell Taylor, Sr. on December 8, 1969, in Columbus, MS and to this union, four children were born.  She joined Southside M.B. Church where she was a faithful and dedicated member.  Mae served as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher, and Head Cook.  She shared her love for cooking with her church family and community which led to her career as the Head Cook at Institute of Community Services, Inc. (ICS) Head Start/Early Head Start Center, where she nurtured countless children with her delicious meals. She found joy in many activities, including solving puzzles, sewing, and tending to her garden. The outdoors brought her peace, and she cherished every moment spent in nature. Her greatest joy was the precious moments shared with family and friends.

On Monday, March 17, 2025, the Lord called His angel home.  At 77 years old, Mae lived a beautiful life before entering rest at her residence, with family by her side.  Our love and memories of her will remain forever.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents: Sam Frank Nash, Sr., and Laura Bell Nash, brothers: Sam Nash, Jr., JC Nash, Henry Nash, and Johnny Nash; sisters: Laura Jean Nash, Mary Nash-Henley, and Lynda Nash-Bell.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories:  her husband, Russell Taylor, Sr. of Columbus, MS; her children: Jacqueline (Kelvin) Stanton of Columbus, MS, Sonya Taylor of Chattanooga, TN, Russell (Brandi) Taylor Jr. of Jackson, MS, and Shamekka Taylor of Alpharetta, GA; nine grandchildren: Bianca Taylor, Russell Taylor, III, Jamie Lane, Bryson Shirley, Jameson Lane, Kennya Sykes, Trevon Taylor, Deon Taylor, and Karson Stanton; two great-grandchildren: Taylor Haggard and Azrael Taylor; as well as two sisters: Bobbie (John) McAfee of Brandon, MS and Cora (Dennis, Sr.) Hicks of Columbus, MS; and one brother, Lynn (Louren) Nash of Columbus, MS and one uncle, Reverend Hugh (Geraldine) Shambry of  Millport, AL, and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives, and friends.
