Gertrude
Pitts
February 18, 1926 – December 31, 2024
Mother Gertrude "Aunt Bae" Pitts was born in Lowndes County, MS, February 18, 1926 to the late William and Bessie Bluitt.
She departed this life on December 31, 2024, at her residence. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and became a member of New Baptist Temple Church. Some years later, she moved to Detroit, Michigan and united with Union Grace M.B. Church and later Greater Ephesian Baptist Church where she served as choir president. She enjoyed singing and cooking.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late John Pitts for 42 years. After his passing, she moved back to Columbus, MS and united with Shiloh F.G. M.B. Church where she attended until her health began to fail. She was born a triplet, but her sisters, Eulah, and Beulah passed away at the age of two. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Ella Jane Jones; four brothers, William Bluitt, Johnny Cleveland Bluitt, Henry Lee Bluitt, and Andre Lee Bluitt.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her nieces, Rose (Terry) Bush, Bessie Harris, and Christine Wilson of Columbus, MS, Betty Simmons of El Paso, TX; nephews, Bobby (Lesia) Jones, Sr. of Liberty, AL, Dennis Jones of Columbus, MS, Eddie Jones of Grand Rapids, MI, William Jones of Sacramento, CA, and Willie (Lee) Jones of Topeka, KS; two step-daughters, Ollie Corder and Johnnie Woods of Detroit, MI; and a host of other relatives and friends.
