Gracie Lue Wells was born in Lowndes County, MS on February 23, 1941, to Otis and Inez Johnson. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Hebron C.M.E. Church. Gracie enjoyed cooking, dancing, and being around family and friends. She was quite a comedian as she always kept her family full of laughter. She was employed for a number of years as a stocker with Malone's Grocery Store in Steens and was a caretaker for Private Homes. Gracie married Johnny Wells and shared 36 wonderful years together.
Gracie Wells departed this life on October 20, 2023, in Columbus, MS. She is preceded in death by: her parents; her sisters: Minnie Simon, Lottie Mae Williams, Lillie Butler, and Alberta Houston; her brothers: Roosevelt Johnson, Carrin Johnson, Bennie J. Johnson, and Robert A. Johnson.
Gracie's memories will forever be cherished by: her husband, Johnny Wells of Caledonia, MS; her children, Jimmy (Arlene) Johnson of Steens, MS, Doltene (John) Sanders of Columbus, MS, Eddie Dunn of Caledonia, MS, Willie (Kathy) Dunn of Denton, TX, Wonder Blair of Southaven, MS, Ida (Cleo) Sanders of Columbus, MS, and Johnny (Sally) Wells of Caledonia, MS; 22 grand- children; 15 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Fannie Mae Carr of Ft. Pierce, FL and Esther Lee Arnold of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
