Hattie "Lorene"
Anthony O'Neal
October 1, 1937 – August 21, 2023
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing. II Timothy 4:7-8
Hattie "Lorene" O'Neal was born October 1, 1937 to the late Louis and Mattie (Fifer) Anthony. She transitioned from this life to everlasting life on Monday, August 21, 2023 at Merit Health Rankin.
Hattie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Wright Chapel United Methodist Church in Crawford, MS.
Hattie grew up on the family farm where she learned the importance of hard work. She was the oldest of seventeen (17) siblings.
She worked for over forty (40) years in various domestic and service roles. She worked at Mack Bank's Supply Club in Crawford, MS as a cook for approximately 15 years. She spent another 20-25 years working in a grocery store as well as a caregiver for the family. She was also a devoted caregiver for William (Taft) Anthony (her uncle) and Mannie O'Neal (grandmother-in law). Her most memorable legacy outside of being a loving and caring wife and mother would be that of a selfless caregiver extending well beyond that of her family.
She married the love of her life, John Robert O'Neal, Sr. (Bob) on March 28, 1959 and to this union, five (5) children were born. They were married for over 48 years.
She enjoyed spending quality time together with her husband and when his health began to decline, her mission continued until his death on October 29, 2007. She was a model and blessed wife and mother. She was always ready to give you her honest opinion and when you left, you had a valuable life-inspiring lesson.
She was preceded in death by her only daughter, Bessie Will Griffin, five sisters: Sherry Morales, Deloistene Mendoza, Judith Galindo, Bertha Johnson, and Martha Anthony, and eight brothers: Leroy Anthony, James Earl Anthony, George Anthony, Phillip Anthony, Billy Mose Anthony, John Albert Anthony, Freddie Anthony, and Louis Anthony, Jr.
She leaves to mourn her death, four (4) sons John Robert O'Neal, Jr. (Liz) of Baton Rouge, LA, Ty Fitzgerald O'Neal (Gracie) of Pennington, AL, Michael Anthony O'Neal (Bill) of San Ramon, CA, and Roberto Lee O'Neal (Sharon) of Alexandria, LA.; three (3) sisters, Mattie Bea Anthony of Brooksville, MS, Elizabeth Estrella of Crawford, MS, and Eula Newhouse of Mt. Morris, MI.; two brother-in-laws and three sister-in-laws, Mose and Mary Tucker of Swartz Creek, MI, N.F. and Harriette Odneal of St. Louis, MS, and Barbara Brooks of Flint, MI.; six (6) grandchildren: LaToya O'Neal-Rodrigues (Maurice), Sharenthia Chew, Christopher O'Neal, Hollie O'Neal, Wynton Henderson, and Vonae Griffin; ten (10) great-grandchildren: Vaniya Henderson, Malia Coleman, Kaylee Henderson, Pearis Richardson, Ryan O'Neal, Jrue O'Neal, London Oglen, Micaiah Chew, Aniyah Rodrigues, and Carlos Rodrigues and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
