Hattie Love
Halbert
November 29, 1937 – September 18, 2022
Hattie Love Halbert was born November 29, 1937 in Lowndes County to the late Sylvester and Carrie Will Brown. She was the eldest daughter of their eight children that included Sylvester, Daniel, Ernest, herself, Carrie Gaines, Allison, Willie and Bertha Gambleton. She confessed Christ at an early age and was a baptized member of Prairie Chapel Baptist Church. She married Willie George Love and, to this union, raised nine children. As her children were members of Tenth Street Fairlawn M.B. Church she joined to worship with them. She was a faithful member serving on the kitchen ministry, the missionary board and as president of choir until illness hindered her attendance. After the passing of her husband and father of her children she later married Jimmie Lee Halbert with whom she was happily devoted until his passing. With him she occasionally attended his church, New Zion Pilgrim M.B. Church, becoming an honorary member of their church family.
She worked in the food service industry as a cook first in the school system the at various restaurants, but she loved children more. She left food service to work at ICS (formerly Westcraft) Headstart. Headstart enabled her to attend educational workshops and earn college credit at Mary Holmes College to receive Certification in Early Childhood Development. She stayed with Headstart for over twenty years until an accident made it difficult for her to work.
Hattie loved to cook; her most popular treat was made from scratch tea cakes; It gave her much joy to feed her friends and family. She gave so much love always feeding and caring for friends, family and her community; if you were ever invited to dine with her family or given a place to sleep when you needed a bed you were considered family. She gave love and was much loved in return.
She is preceded in death by three brothers, her two sisters and one child, Leo Love. She leaves to cherish her memories: two brothers, Ernest Brown of Columbus, MS and Willie George (Bertha) Brown of Columbus, GA; her children, Keith (Margie) Brown, Erma Brown, Alma Johnson, Angela Love and Christopher (Khryl) Love all of Columbus, MS, Alvin Love of Las Vegas, NV, Sandra (Frank) Merchant of Eagle River, AK and Willie (Beverly) Love, Jr of Swansea, Ill; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grands and 1 great-great grandson in addition to a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.
