Rev. James A. Greenlaw was born on October 4, 1931, to the Union of William H. Greenlaw and Hattie B. Simon Greenlaw. He joined Southside M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Issac Lacy at an early age. He was married to Gladys L. Parkins.

He became pastor of Providence M.B. Church where he served for 25 years. Rev. Greenlaw was preceded in death by both parents, his wife; 3 brothers: Rev. Eddie W., Rev. Robert, and Leroy Greenlaw, and one step-daughter, Christina Lee.

He leaves to cherish his memories: one brother, John (Harriet) Simon of Sag Harbor, NY; two sisters, Queen E. (Greenlaw) Rice of Belleville, IL; Helen (Levy) Jones of Fairview Heights, IL; three step-grandchildren; and host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
