James Edward Meady, age 68, of Columbus, Mississippi, peacefully departed this life on March 26, 2026. Born on April 21, 1957, in Columbus, MS, he was the beloved son of Joe Meady, Sr. and Fannie Mae Brackett Hill.
James Meady was a proud graduate of Caldwell High School, Class of 1976. With a steadfast commitment to education and personal growth, he continued his academic journey at Mississippi Valley State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree. His passion for learning led him further to Mississippi State University, where he obtained both his Master’s and Doctorate degrees — achievements that reflected his dedication, perseverance, and love for knowledge.
His career in education spanned many years and touched countless lives. He began teaching in the West Point School District and later served in the Aberdeen School District. His leadership abilities led him to serve as Principal in the Okolona School District. Dr. Meady also shared his love of history as a teacher at Columbus High School and generously gave his time as a substitute teacher across several districts. Beyond the classroom, he worked as the manager of Captain D’s and was employed part-time with *The Commercial Dispatch*, demonstrating his strong work ethic and commitment to his community.
A faithful member of Zion Gate M.B. Church, Dr. Meady lived a life grounded in faith and service. He was also a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, having honorably served his country. As a devoted member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., he embraced brotherhood, scholarship, and service throughout his life.Dr. Meady was known for his warm spirit, kind heart, and genuine love for others. In his later years, as a resident of Windsor Place, he became a cherished presence among the nurses and staff, who loved him dearly. His gentle demeanor and friendly nature left lasting impressions on everyone blessed to know him
.He was preceded in death by his parents, Fannie Brackett Meady Hill; father, Joe Meady, Sr.; his brother, John L. Meady; and his sister, Mary A. Meady; sister-in-love, Lenell Meady.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving siblings, Robert Meady of Columbus, MS; Joe (Sharon) Meady, Jr. of Strawberry Plains, TN; Mary V. (Raynal) Williams of Columbus, MS; Janice (Hamid) Nottage of Columbus, MS; and Bobbie ( Elder Carl Sr. ) Randle of Kankakee, IL; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, colleagues, and former students whose lives he touched in meaningful ways.Dr. James Edward Meady’s legacy is one of faith, education, service, and love. His life was a testament to dedication — to family, to community, and to the countless young minds he helped shape. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
