Obituary

Mr. Joe L. Taylor was born on June 26, 1959 to the late Joe King Taylor and Dollie Taylor.  Joe L. was the oldest of eight children, and his life was enriched by the love and support of his large and loving family. From a young age, Joe L.'s vibrant spirit and infectious love brought joy to all who knew him, and his kind heart endeared him to everyone he met.

Joe L. was preceded in death by his father, a daughter, one sister, 2 brothers, and 2 step-children.

He attended Noxubee County High School and was an employee at Land of Lakes, Inc. in Macon, where he retired in 2009 after many years of service. Joe L. was a member of Mt. Carmel M. B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Jack Vaughn. He was a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan as well as an avid fisherman.

On the night of February 22, 2025, the sweet angels of Heaven embraced Joe L. into eternal peace at 11:05 p.m. @ Oktibbeha County Hospital.

Joe L. leaves behind a loving mother, Dollie Taylor of Macon, MS. He was the proud father of one son, Christopher Rupert of Macon, daughters, Evelyn (Mark) Stewart, Cecelia Rupert, Lafretta Roby, Koletta Roby, and Niesha Barber all of Macon, MS; and Marquita Johnson of Philadelphia, MS.

He will be deeply missed by his siblings, Linda Taylor of Memphis, TN, Cynthia (Buster) Payne of Columbus, MS, Nathaniel (Scharvae) Taylor of Loganville, GA, Sheila Melson of Stockbridge, GA, Patricia (Willie) Ramsey of Macon, MS, and Sandra (Bryce) Kelly of Caledonia, MS.

He leaves behind his wife, Mary Cockrell Taylor of Macon, MS; step-children, Lovelillie Cockrell of Brooksville, MS and Coketha (Jermaine) Washington and Robert Cockrell of Macon, MS; 23 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Joe L. leaves behind a circle of nieces and nephews who shared countless memories and moments of laughter with him. They will forever cherish the times they spent together and the special connection they shared.

His passing is deeply felt by his cousins and other relatives, especially Burt Bonner, Cleo Bush, Jr. Emma Halbert, and Dwight Taylor.
