John Henry Harris Jr. was born on January 15, 1945 to Rosie Lee Harris and John Henry Harris Sr. in Columbus Mississippi.  He gained his heavenly wings on Sunday morning, July 31, 2022.

Mr. Harris graduated from R. E. Hunt High School Columbus Mississippi at the age of 16. He went on to attend Rust College and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  He then lived in Los Angeles, CA briefly before joining the U.S. Army, serving a tour in Korea where he fought in the Vietnam War operating heavy artillery from 1966-1968. After his military service, he went on to work various professional positions to include working at Rust College during their centennial celebration, substitute teacher at Columbus High School, and accountant and property manager with the Community Action Program in Bolivar County. He also owned and operated his own business, Harris Grocery Store in Rosedale, Ms.  During his time in the Mississippi Delta, he continued his education at Delta State University with numerous hours of graduate level coursework. He returned to Columbus and alongside his brother Chester Harris, started Harris Construction Company, a family business that met the construction, plumbing, and painting needs of the community. He also enjoyed gardening, art, and music. He was loved in his many roles, as a son, a husband, a father, an uncle, and a friend.

Mr. Harris was a born again believer in Jesus Christ. He was baptized at St. Matthews M.B. Church at the age of 12.  He has been a member of St. Matthews church thereafter, and has served in the roles of choir member, Sunday school teacher, and Trustee.
