Obituary

Larry Sam Council was born April 6, 1967, in Columbus, MS.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Union Hopewell Baptist
Church under the leadership of Bishop Bobby McCarter. He then joined Southside
M.B. Church where he became a deacon under the leadership of Pastor Rayfield
Evins. Larry graduated from New Hope High School in 1986. He continued
his education at Devry Institute of Technology, earning his associate's
degree in electronics technology while working at UPS (United Parcel
Services) in Doraville, GA, from 1986-1988. From 1988 - 2007, Larry
worked with Ikon Office Solution in Columbus, MS. From 2007- 2012,
he worked with Rico America in Columbus, MS. Then from 2012- 2017,
Larry worked with RJ Young Office Solutions. Finally, from 2017- 2023,
Larry was employed with The Burroughs in Plymouth, MI, until the time
of his death. He also started his own cleaning business called Dependable
Cleaning Service.

Larry had a love for basketball. He began his basketball career playing
in high school and received a scholarship to play at East Mississippi
Community College but chose a different path. In his spare time,
Larry coached a softball team, girls and boys, from our community.
Larry also coached both his sons in basketball with the YMCA. He was
a part of The Afro American Culture Club, and an avid sports fan - his
favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys.
Larry was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend
to many. He met the love of his life, Alesia, and they shared 31 wonderful
years of marriage. Larry was committed to serving the Lord, he loved his
church, church family, fellow deacons, neighbors, and the community he
lived in.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Addie Mae Council and Claude
Gavin, Jr.; sister, Lizzie L. Harris; and brother, Jimmy Gavin.
Larry's memories will forever be cherished by: his loving wife of 31 years,
Alesia D. Council; children, Lavaris Council, Corey Council, and Myia
Council, all of Columbus, MS; three grandchildren, Bella Rose Council,
Grayson Dillard Council, and Casen Council; siblings, Demetrious
Council, Calvin Council, Jerome Council, Andronise Council, and
Clarence Gavin, all of Columbus, MS, Byron (Famina) Council of
Hartford, CT, Lula Gavin Tate, Vicki Gavin, and Helen Hall, all of Brooksville, MS;
and Hattie Martin of Waldorf, MD; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and
friends.
