Latoya Shanta Hill went home to be with the Lord June 17, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle Hospital.

Latoya Shanta Hill, affectionately known as “Mayor of Sandfield” was born July 29, 1984, to Veeletha Hill and Larry Tate. Latoya was a mother, sister, and friend whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many.

She accepted Christ at an early age at Christ of Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Church of Jesus Christ Upper Room. She attended Columbus High School, and after completing school she went on to work for Burger King and Aurora Nursing and Rehabilitation in Columbus, MS.

Latoya is remembered for her kind and loving heart, infectious smile, and the happiness she brought to everyone she met. There was never a dull moment in her presence.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Muggie Hill, Walter Hill, and J.C. Tate Sr.; aunts, Hazel Bland and Shirlene Hill Reed; uncles, Minister Cleotis Hill and Walter Hill Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memorial her mother, Veeletha Hill of Columbus, MS; father, Larry Tate (Patricia Tate) of Columbus, MS, and Bonus Dad, Sylvester Griffin of Columbus, MS; one son, Chase Hill of Columbus, MS and Godson, Kadarius Taylor of Columbus, MS; grandmother, Millie Tate of Brooksville, MS; sisters, Lakesha Hill of Brooklyn, NY, Daisy Buchanan of Texas, Precious Jasper of Hattiesburg, MS, Sequoria Yates of Macon, MS, Salarria Crook of Macon, MS, and Octavia Dismuke of Columbus, MS; brothers, Tyboris Griffin, Novel Tate, Kyrie Tate, Roderick Dismuke and Rashad Dismuke all of Columbus, MS; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
