Levi Mark Hatcher was born on May 7, 1949 at home with a midwife in Jena, LA. He was the ninth child of seventeen, thirteen living children and two still born, to the late Levi Charles Hatcher and Mary Cooper Hatcher. He was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church in Jena, Louisiana before marrying the late Lucille Robinson Hatcher and moving to Macon in 1975. He was one of the founding members, pastor and administrator of Fellowship of Hope Community Church in Macon, MS.
Levi was preceded in death by his father, Levi C. Hatcher, mother, Mary Cooper Hatcher, the love of his life, Lucille Robinson Hatcher. Sisters: Bonita Yvonne (Armstrong) Hatcher, Nancy Elizabeth (Craven)Hatcher, Maxine (Hughs) Hatcher, Louise (Jordan) Hatcher, Josephine (Washington) Hatcher. Brothers: Jase B. (JB) Hatcher, Charlie Lewis Hatcher. Niece: Renee Jordan, Stephanie Jordan, Lisa Craven, Freda Craven. Nephew: Eric Jordan.
He leaves to celebrate his life and legacy his four children all of whom graduated from college which he was very proud of. Christopher C. Hatcher, Macon, MS. B.A. in English, Mississippi Valley State University 2001 and Teacher Certification, West Florida State University 2006. Nine grandchildren: Cillmaryl, Pensacola State College, Lamark, B.S. Allied Health Science Florida A&M University, 2024. Pre Physical Therapy, Doctoral in progress, Olivia, Ayla, Justin, Alaina, Rochelle, Stacy and Renee. Four Great- Grand: Jalei, Ethan, Lil Cillmaryl and Seyvn Brooklyn.

Levi M. Hatcher held a B.A. Degree in Sociology from Grambling State University where he was a choir director and pianist for Baptist Student Union. He continued his love for music as he played piano for Woodlawn C. M. E. Church, Big Bee Valley C. M. E Church and Slyverian Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. He received a Certificate in Christian Education from American Baptist Seminary of Nashville, Tennessee. He served as a Dean of Men at Alcorn State University in Lorman, MS. He moved to Macon where he worked as an Industrial Supervisor for various manufacturing companies including Delta Brick Plant and Beneke Sanderson Plumbing Products Inc. for more than twelve years. Later he began opening and operating his own businesses which included a chain of convenience stores Airport Food Mart, Pineywood Quick, Corner Quick, New Mart, restaurants, Cedar Creek Swimming Pool and real estate management including Macon Apartments.
After the tragic death of his brother in law, Baskum Robinson, who was killed in the Noxubee County jail, Levi started a newsletter that highlighted events and issues of the black community. It was with that newsletter the community was able to read the truth about politics in Noxubee County and surrounding areas. Because of the information brought forth to the community, Noxubee County began to elect more black candidates into public office.
Levi M. Hatcher was the founder of Juneteenth Festival in Macon, MS as it was a childhood event of which he and his family celebrated in his hometown of Jena,La. He continued to present and develop Juneteenth from 2001 to 2021. His desire was to continue the festival at its original location so that the history of our people were not white washed. The legacy will continue.
