Lucian "Mr. Nate" Nathaniel Smith, passed away at the age of 74 at the hospital in Meridian, MS. He was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi, on March 27, 1951and grew up in Hamilton, Mississippi. Nathaniel was baptized at an early age and became a member of Valley Chapel Church in Hamilton, MS and then later joined Second Baptist Church in Brooksville, MS. Nathaniel proudly joined the United States Army in 1972, completing four years of honorable service. After returning home, he worked in several positions before beginning his long career at Georgia Gulf Chemicals, where he later retired.
After marrying the love of his life, Brenda, he provided a home filled with warmth, laughter, and steady partnership. Their 33 years together were marked by deep devotion, shared strength, and a bond that shaped every part of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Lee and Mary Smith, and his brother, Ollie Smith.
Nathaniel leaves behind cherished memories with his devoted wife of 33 years, Brenda Smith of Brooksville, MS; his daughter, Natalie (Ken) Johnson of Starkville, MS; and his bonus daughter, Viette Mixon of Detroit, MI. He was a proud grandfather to Des'Ariya, Janiyah, and Kaden, all of Starkville, Mississippi, and Aubrey of Detroit, MI. Two great grandchildren, A'Soki and A'Koa of Detroit, MI.
He is also survived by three siblings: Oscar Wayne Smith (Tammy) of Washington, D.C.; June C. Keaton of Hyattsville, Maryland; and Rosie Diggs of Columbus, Mississippi, three sisters‑in‑law — Audrey Beck of Brooksville, MS; Barbara Bridges of Columbus, MS; and Claranita Williams of St. Louis, MO. and one brother‑in‑law, Lamar Williams of Columbus, MS. He is loved by his nieces and nephews, along with many family members and friends.
Known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and unforgettable sense of humor, Mr. Nate never met a stranger. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and ease to every room he entered. Therefore, he will be remembered for his big heart, his steady humor, and the way he made everyone feel like family. His legacy will live in the love he gave, the stories he shared, and the many lives he touched.
