Obituary

MAGGIE REE GAVIN POOLE, the daughter of the late Frank and Mattie B. Gavin was born March 22, 1939, in Cliftonville, Mississippi.

Maggie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age in the family's church Bigbee Valley C.M.E. She was educated at Drake Hill Elementary and graduated from Wilson High School. Maggie furthered her education in nursing by attending Ohio State Nursing School and later attending a nursing institute in New York City.

Maggie worked passionately and had a positive connection with her patients during her nursing career. Maggie retired in March of 2015. After working at Florence Nightingale Nursing Home for 35 years.

Maggie was united in holy matrimony to the late Eugene Poole in 1963. Maggie joined Zion Shiloh Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York in 1972 where she became a member and joined the Pastor's Aide Club for over 35 years.

Maggie was a hardworking mother of three wonderful children: Brenda Poole McCray, Steve Poole and Michele Poole, whom she loved dearly.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Lum (Nay) Gavin, William Gavin, Walter (Bob) Gavin, and Frank Gavin, Jr.; and five sisters, Rosie Mae Allen-Fowler, Mary Louise Bush, Bessie Pearl Jones, Fannie Ann Gavin, and Dilsa Thompson. She leaves to cherish her memory: Brenda Poole McCray, Sheldon McCray, Steve Poole, Michelle Poole, and Cynthia Manning; grandchildren, Dehaven McCray of Binghamton, NY, Takira Poole, and Brittany Manning of the Poconos, PA; great-grandchildren, London and Makai Channer of the Poconos, PA; two sisters, Mary Jean Morton of Ripley, TN, and Velma Gavin of Cleveland, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
