Maia Murray, who departed this life on March 14, 2026, at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo, MS, was born on June 3, 1997, to Sharon and Willie Murray, Jr. in Amory, MS. A cherished daughter, a devoted sister, a loving aunt, and a loyal friend, her gentle spirit and loving heart touched countless lives.
Maia's passion for serving others was evident in every aspect of her life. Her infectious kindness and willingness to share her talents and love drew many to her. She had a particular fondness for decorating and designing, a joy that often found expression in her love for celebrating others, especially her church family. Maia also found great pleasure in cooking and was deeply active in her church, New Zion M.B. Church, where she served faithfully in various capacities. Her profound love for children was undeniable; kids naturally gravitated towards her, sensing her warm and nurturing spirit.
Maia began her educational journey at Caledonia schools before transitioning to West Lowndes High School, where she graduated with the Class of 2016. She furthered her education at East Mississippi Community College. Professionally, Maia dedicated her time and talents to caring for others, working at Stewart’s Daycare and later for seven years at Lisa’s Christian Learning Center, where she undoubtedly left a lasting impression on the young lives she touched.
Maia was preceded in death by her grandparents Rev. Ezell and Modess Wicks and Willie J. and Georgia Murray. Uncles: James L. Wicks, Bobby F. Wicks, Charles E. Wicks, Hubert S. Wicks, Mack G. Murray and Sherman G. Murray. Aunts: Mildred Hayes and Ida Murray.
Maia leaves to cherish her memories her loving parents Sharon G. and Willie J. Murray Jr. Siblings: WIllie J. Murray III of Collinsville, MS and Rebecca Harris of Charlotte, NC. Aunts: Livian J. Wicks-Stovall of Columbus, MS, Bertha A. Murray of Fayetteville, NC and Julia A. Metcalf (Brian) of Boerne, TX and Great Aunt Mary Wicks of Columbus, MS. Uncles: George Wicks of Columbus, MS and Andrew W. Murray (Lori) of Columbus, MS, Willie G. Johnson (Clara) of Columbus, MS and Leon Hayes of St. Louis, MO. Special Cousins Herman (Cora) Phillips, Della Phillips, Herman L. and Chris Phillips and Courtney Smith along with a host of relatives and friends who will deeply miss her.
Maia Murray’s legacy of love, compassion, and dedicated service will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her memory will be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire.
