Martha Ann Thompson-Ivy, affectionately known as "Rit," was born in Columbus, MS to the late Jimmy Thompson, Sr. and Lucy Virginia Thompson. She confessed hope in Christ and united with the Prairie Chapel M. B. Church at an early age under the leadership of Rev. J. H. Cockrell, then she joined Piney Grove M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Micheal Reed and returned to Prairie Chapel until her health begin to fail.
Martha enjoyed life by having fun with friends and family. She was an excellent cook, loved to sew, and excelled in singing with her church choir, she loved to attend gospel quartet singings, and singing song of praise when called upon for church programs and special events.
Martha dedicated 25 years of her professional life as a line operator at United Technologies, where she was a valued and respected member of their team until her retirement. Beyond her career, Martha was a faithful servant and a beloved member of Prairie Chapel M.B. Church, where she joyfully lent her voice to the choir, praising and uplifting those around her.
Martha was preceded in death by her loving parents, James and Lucy Thompson, and her dear brother, Willie Thompson.
She leaves a legacy of cherished memories to her devoted children, Justin and Derek Thompson of Columbus, MS; and three adored grandchildren, Martha is also survived by her beloved siblings, Mary Perry, Irene Brice, Sadie Tate, Diane (William) Clemmons, Brenda Wilson, Earl (Susan) Thompson, Jimmie Thompson, Lamar Thompson, Al Thompson, and Ben (Lanetta) Deloach; three grandchildren, Journee, Destin and Sumya, She will also be fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and kindness.
Martha “Rit” Ivy will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
