Mary
Harris
Feb 12, 1943 — Aug 26, 2026
Macon, MS
Mary Harris, wife of the late Edward Harris, was born February 12, 1943 to the late Sid and Janie Mae Smith who preceded her in death.
She lived a life rooted in love, family, and the simple joys that make life meaningful. As a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother, Mary found her greatest happiness in caring for the people she loved. Her family was at the center of her world, and she treasured every opportunity to gather with them, share a meal, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
She confessed Christ at an early age at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She has gone home to be reunited with her siblings who went before her: five brothers; Willie Earl Smith, Willie Lee Smith, W.C. Smith, Charles Earl Smith, and William Smith all of Macon, MS; three sisters, Rose Sutton and Ella Kate Shields of Macon, MS; and Callie Williams of Springfield, Illinois.
She leaves to cherish her four children, Lester Walker, Earnestine Harris, Frederick Harris and Mary Conner all of Macon, MS; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren all of Macon, MS. She is also survived by her four dear siblings, Jimmy Rogers Smith, Clarence (Jessie Mae) Smith and Bobbie Ann Lockett all of Macon, MS and Pearlie Yates of Louisville, MS. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.
Mary was known for her caring heart, honest nature, and wonderful personality. She had a way of bringing warmth and laughter into the lives of those around her. She was someone her family could depend on and was always ready with a helping hand, a listening ear, an honest word, or perhaps a witty remark that brought a smile when it was needed most.
