Maurice Colbert was born on May 17, 1964 to Catherine and Charlie Will Colbert in Columbus, MS. He was one of four children from this union.

He confessed Christ and was baptized at 10 years old. He was an active member of the choir at Pepper Hill Baptist Church in Lowndes County.

Maurice started working early as a bus driver's assistant in elementary school. There he gained his initial experience in sports as a basketball player. He excelled in extracurricular activities at Motley High School where he became an excellent football player, basketball player, a member of the track and field team and a notable band member where he played the bass drum enthusiastically on most Friday nights.

After high school graduation, he attended Warner Enterprise truck driving school where he then worked as an over-the-road truck driver for 42 years. During this time he fathered one son, Jonathan Maurice Howell.

He is preceded in death by his father and one sister, Deborah Ann Mixon.

Maurice leaves to cherish his memories to his loving mother, Catherine E. Cox Colbert of Columbus, MS; his son, Jonathan (Tesha) Howell of Southaven, MS; two grand children, Ezekial and Elijah Howell; his sister, Felecia (Michael) Martin of Nashville, TN; his brother, Omar (Lori) Colbert of Cheyenne, WY; his aunts, Louella Robinson, Charlie Faye Young, Syvella Cox and Linda Cox; his uncles, Tommie Cox and Charlie Cox, Jr.; and many cousins, nephews, other relatives and friends.
