Mildred L.
Dismukes
July 3, 1944 – January 1, 2024
The world lost a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who transitioned to eternal rest on January 1, 2024. Mildred L. Dismukes was born on July 3, 1944, to Willie Payne and Nettie Adams in Ethelsville, Alabama. Our dear mother Mildred accepted Christ at an early age and joined Baptist Grove M.B. Church in Ethelsville, Alabama.
After graduating from Hopewell High School in Reform, Alabama class of 1962. Mildred attended Mary Holmes College, Gibson Beauty & Barber College in West Point, Mississippi and Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska.
Mildred began her employment as an educator at Headstart and a K-12 teacher at Concord High School. She was later employed with Northern Telecom in Atlanta, Georgia and completed her career as an employee with the Arc of Anchorage in Anchorage, Alaska.
Mildred was a passionate woman and when she wasn't filling her home with the warmth and kindness, she could be found traveling, shopping, dining at the finest restaurants, and spending time with family and friends, or gardening in her yard. Mildred excelled at motherhood and was the foundation of her family through and through by raising three wonderful men and being a mother figure to many of those whose lives she touched over the years. Mildred loved to love on people and had a heart of gold and genuine love for all.
Mildred was preceded in death by her father, Willie Payne; her mother, Nettie Adams, her brothers, Abe and James Covrington, and her sister, Sarah Roland.
Mildred leaves to cherish her memories: three sons, Leonardo Dismukes, Sr. (Freda) of Columbus, MS, Genaro Dismukes of Atlanta, GA, and Rodriquez Dismukes (Tureka) of Columbus, MS; a sister, Virginia Miller of Ethelsville, AL; (10) grandchildren, (5) great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
