Obituary

Mirk Louise Abrams Jethrow, affectionately known to all as "Shawdy," a woman whose radiant spirit was illuminated by her profound and personal love for her Lord and Savior, "her Jesus," has peacefully taken eternal rest. She departed this earthly life, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, steadfast love, and devoted service, surrounded by the comfort of her cherished memories and the love of her family.

Mirk was born on January 26, 1935, in Bigbee Valley, Mississippi, to Beatrice Gavin and Joe Natham Abrams. Her early years were shaped by the loving care of her grandparents, Henry and Sarah Gavin, who raised her and instilled in her the values that would guide her life. When Mirk was a young girl, the family moved to Columbus, Mississippi, which would remain her beloved home throughout her years. She received her education at Claiborne School and Mitchell M. School.

From an early age, Mirk confessed her faith in Christ, beginning her spiritual journey at Providence M.B. Church. Her walk with God was a cornerstone of her existence, leading her to be baptized and join New Baptist Temple M. B. Church. Upon moving to the city, she united with Friendship M.B. Church, where her commitment shone brightly as she faithfully served on the usher board and the kitchen committee. After marrying her beloved husband, Eddie J. Jethrow, Sr., Their union was blessed with four children, expanding the beautiful family Mirk so deeply treasured. In later years, Mirk found her spiritual home at Full Gospel Ministry, under the inspired leadership of her sister, Apostle Maxine Hall. There, her devotion continued to flourish as she served faithfully on the Mother's Board, the Lord's Supper Committee, and lent her voice to the Golden Choir. Even as her health began to decline, Mirk's commitment to her faith never wavered; she famously ensured her tithes and offerings were paid, even just weeks before her passing, demonstrating her profound trust and obedience to her Lord and Savior.

Mirk truly embodied her faith in every aspect of her life. She had a personal, intimate relationship with her Lord, often declaring with joy, "Let me tell you about my Jesus!" Her fervent love for Christ was infectious, a testament to her belief that her Savior was truly her own.

Mirk was also a dedicated professional. For twenty-five years, she worked diligently as a Prep Cook and Custodian at the Officers Club of Columbus Air Force Base, a career she truly loved. Upon her retirement, her innate caregiving spirit took over. She lovingly became a daytime caregiver for her mother until her passing, a caregiver for her uncle, John Gavin, until his passing, and then a full-time caregiver for her husband until he, too, was called home. Her unwavering dedication to her family was a hallmark of her character.

Mirk is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eddie J. Jethrow, Sr.; her parents; her step-father, Rev. James Moore; her grandparents; her three sons, Tyrone Gardner, Johnnie Henderson, and Gary Griffin, Sr.; her four brothers, James Moore, Jr., Marvin Moore, Michael Moore, and William Hosea; her grandchild, Eddie J. Jethrow, III; her sister, Bettie Latham; and a host of cherished brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories a vast and devoted family: her children, Herman (Lenita) Jethrow, Ocean Springs, MS, Sherman Henderson, Debra (Rev. Sammie) Hill, Carl (Sharon) Gardner, Sr., Eddie (Jacqueline) Jethrow, Jr., Larwanda (Derick) Troop, Everett Jethrow, Yolancer Nixon, Mary (James) Coleman, Sheila Thompson, all of Columbus, MS, and Joyce King of Detroit, MI.
