Obituary

The Formation: Psalm 139: 13 " For You formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb" Nellie O'Neal Brewer entered this world on May 4, 1935 to the union of James David O'Neal, Sr. and Bertha Ann Petty O'Neal.

The Acceptance: Psalm 19:14 "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord my rock and my redeemer" Nellie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with the East Sand Creek Missionary Baptist Church of Mayhew, Mississippi. There she served faithfully on the Mother's Ministry as secretary. Later she relocated to live with her daughters in Columbus, MS and joined the South Side Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member.

The Union: Colossians 3:14 "Love is the unifying force that binds all other virtues together" Nellie was united into Holy matrimony to the late Howard Lee Brewer on October 26, 1954. To this union two beautiful daughters were born.

The Toiler: I Corinthians 4:12 "We toil, working with our own hands" Proverbs 31: 15 "She cooks, wakes up early in the morning, cooks food for her family, and gives for her family" Nellie was one of the greatest cooks around Artesia, MS. She was employed for many years as a cook at the Cross Road Truck Stop in Mayhew, Mississippi. After its closure she obtained employment with Trinity Nursing Home as a cook, it is there that she retired from labor, but not from cooking. The family was always blessed by the wonderful meals she prepared.

The Giver: Deuteronomy 15:10 "God will bless those who give generously without grudging" Nellie was always one to give help to those in need. Aside from providing for her girls, prior to, she was a very contributing factor to the upbringing of her nieces and nephews whom she treated as her own. Helping others was a natural passion that she possessed.

The Precedants: Psalm 116:15 "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints" Aside from her parents, James David O'Neal, Sr and Bertha Ann Petty O'Neal, she is preceded in death by her Husband; Howard Lee Brewer, her siblings, Brothers; James D. O'Neal, Jr, Cleveland O'Neal, Logan O'Neal, Jack O'Neal and Charlie O'Neal, Sisters; Mariah Jones and Daisy Mae O'Neal Longstreet.

The Departure: II Timothy 4:6 "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand"
Nellie peacefully departed life here on Earth on November 15, 2025 as she went to her Heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior.

The Successors and Mourners: Ecclesiastes 2:18 "So I loath all my fruit of my effort, for which I worked so hard on Earth because I must leave it behind in the hands of my successors", Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted" Those left to cherish and remember the wonderful and loving memories of such a precious and loving person are her daughters, whom she loved and was very proud of: Nedra Ann Brewer Smith, Cansandra Lasha Brewer Cox (Patrick); her only grandchild, Davius Rashad Smith; her great-grandsons, Maddox Reed Smith, Jaxon Rashad Smith and Milan Reese Smith all of Columbus, Mississippi; sisters in law, Currie Fisher and Johnnie Mae Brewer both of Columbus, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
