Ola Mae Taylor, 64, of Columbus, Mississippi, passed away on December 19, 2025, in Memphis, Tennessee. Born on September 20, 1961, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, she was the beloved daughter of Wimberly Edward and Olivia Edwards.
Ola Mae was raised in the Gordo, Alabama community and graduated from Gordo High School in 1980 She dedicated her life to serving others, building a career defined by compassion, patience, and strength. She worked in the mental health field for more than three decades, including 26 years with the Department of Mental Health, and later continued her service through her employment with the J.W. Hunt Group Home in Columbus, Mississippi. Her work was more than a job—it was a calling. She cared deeply for the people she served and made a lasting impact through her steady presence and kind heart.
At an early age, Ola Mae confessed her hope in Christ at Acks Chapel C.M.E. Church in Gordo and later continued her faith journey as a member of Maranatha Faith Center. Her faith remained an important part of her life, guiding her through each season.
Ola Mae found joy in the everyday things that made life rich—watching old videos, traveling, and spending time with those she loved. She was also a devoted sports fan, proudly cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Dallas Cowboys.
She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Jessie, George, Willie and William Edwards and one sister, Gladys Burrough.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her children, Timothy Owens, April Taylor and Emily Mixon; her grandchildren, Madison, Meaghan, Carrington, Morgan, Ava Grace, Temperance, J'Kobe, Genevieve, Octavia, Conner and Dylan; her siblings, Estella Edwards, Patricia Edwards, Robert (Janice) Edwards, Wimberly (Teresa) Edwards, Jr., Charles Edwards and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
