Pastor Maurice
Williams
Aug 29, 1948 — Aug 14, 2026
Columbus, MS
Pastor Maurice Williams, a cherished servant of God, loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, transitioned to eternal life on August 14, 2026, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Born on August 29, 1948, in Columbus, MS, he was affectionately known as the "Knee Baby" among his seven siblings, a term that symbolizes the cherished place he held in his family.
A proud graduate of R.E. Hunt High School in 1966, Maurice went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Navy, a commitment that reflected his strong sense of duty and dedication to the greater good. It was during these formative years that he developed the values of service and leadership that would guide his life.
Maurice's life took a beautiful turn when he met his beloved wife, Katie. For 57 wonderful years, they embodied the essence of true partnership, sharing a journey filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Professionally, he dedicated 48 years to Burford Electric as a supervisor, where his leadership and work ethic were greatly respected.
Pastor Williams' spiritual journey began at the age of 33 when he confessed his hope in Christ at Brick M.B. Church. He eagerly took on roles as an usher and avidly taught both Bible Study and Sunday School. His calling grew stronger over time, leading him to serve as the pastor of St. John M.B. Church for 14 invaluable years. In 2008, he followed God's vision and founded the Temple of Deliverance Baptist Church, where he continued to shepherd his flock with grace, wisdom, and profound love.
Beyond his pastoral duties, Maurice found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid fisherman, he relished the tranquility of nature and the joy of spending precious moments outdoors with family. His love for travel created cherished memories, allowing him to experience life to the fullest surrounded by loved ones.
At the time of his passing, Maurice was welcomed into the arms of his Heavenly Father by his parents, Johnnie and Rosie, along with his seven beloved siblings: Emma Jean Smith, Clarence Edward, Clara Hines, Ossie Hines, Harry Lee Williams, Annie Poole, and Evangel Bluitt. Their reunion in the afterlife was surely a moment of joy and love.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will continue to resonate through the lives of many. His devoted wife, Katie Williams, and his children, Maurice Anton Jr., (Precious) Williams, Channel Denise Williams, and Monica Rochell Williams; his grandchildren, Xavier Fritzgerald Miles, Maurice Williams III, Ashley Shantell Williams, Kaitlin Kiana Williams, Kyreese Hadu Williams, Prince Maurice Williams, and Princess Kia Williams; his great-grandchildren, Jarvis Demonte Ellis, Jr., and Alyson Victoria Miles.
In addition, his presence will be deeply missed by his in-laws, Willie Mae Brewer, Lovell Morris, and Wade Morris; his God-children, Marie Hawthorne, Carl Cheatam, and Raymond Deloach; his special friends, Johnny Cockrell and Lorenzo Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and cherished friends.
Pastor Maurice Williams leaves a legacy of love, faith, and dedication that will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him. His life was a testament to unyielding faith, a passion for service, and a deep love for family—qualities that will continue to inspire generations to come.
