Pastor Pierre
"Perry" Gibson
December 4, 1946 – April 6, 2025
With heavy hearts, we, along with all who knew Perry
Gibson, mourn his passing. Pierre, known by many as
"Perry," passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2025.
Perry's life journey began December 4, 1946 where he was
welcomed into this world by his parents, the late John R. and
Evelyn Gertrude Johnson Gibson. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois
where he attended the public schools. After graduation from high
school, Perry joined the military and served honorably in the
Navy. After his tour of duty in the Navy, Perry returned to
civilian life in his hometown of Chicago. In the early seventies,
looking for a new adventure, he moved to Mississippi and made
his home for the next 53 years in West Point.
At a young age, he confessed faith in Christ, was baptized, and
became an active member of First Baptist Church in Chicago,
Illinois. As a child, he actively participated in Sunday school,
youth choir, and performed other youth duties in the church. He
entered the ministry and served faithfully as a pastor for several
years. In addition to his pastoral calling, in the early eighties, he
launched his career as a full-time barber and He began studying
and training to become a master hair stylist as well as a barber and
cosmetology instructor, a part of the family's business, Gibson
Barber & Beauty College. He maintained faith in Christ
through his work, kindness, grace, compassion, love of
family and friends, and expressed gratitude for his long life,
full of wonderful experiences.
Having more than three decades of experience, finishing
multiple training programs, and wining many awards, Perry
became passionate about bringing the barber and
cosmetology profession to the top of the beauty industry.
Besides providing training and sharing his knowledge with
his students and colleagues in the profession, he also worked
behind the chair specializing in complex hair cutting and
styling techniques.
Traveling frequently throughout the country and abroad,
participating in various hair seminars and workshops, Perry
became a household spokesperson for various beauty
companies and their products, and also held training
seminars for their participants. He even sponsored his own
seminars (Expo 2000) for his students and was inspired to
launch his own line of hair care product known as "Hair
Mercy" and "Bump No More."
In the 78 years that Perry lived, he was so many things to so
many people. He was a pastor, teacher, husband, father,
grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend—all
of whom will continue to honor his legacy by celebrating his
life and accomplishments. As a father and grandfather,
Perry's love for his children and grandchildren never
wavered and extended far beyond the walls of his home.
They were always the number one recipients of his wisdom,
guidance, and unwavering support, as they navigated through
life's challenges.
Perry is preceded in death by his parents, John and Evelyn
Gibson and two brothers, Richard and John Anthony Gibson.
His departure will leave an everlasting impression on the

Gibson, of West Point, MS; grandsons, Cameron Gibson,
