Reverend Johnny Clemmons was born on April 14, 1954 in Columbus, Mississippi, to the late Jimmy and Louise Clemmons. He departed this life on July 11, 2026, having lived a life marked by a profound commitment to God, family, and country.

A man whose faith was the cornerstone of his existence, Johnny confessed his hope in Christ in 1968 and became a devoted member of Mt. Carmel C.M.E. Church. His spiritual journey deepened when he later joined Friendship M.B. Church, where his leadership potential was recognized and nurtured. He was ordained as a deacon in 1984 and, feeling a call to further ministry, was ordained as a minister in 1987. His dedication to theological education led him to attend seminary in Carrollton, Alabama, and Starkville, Mississippi, enriching his ability to guide and inspire others. Throughout his ministry, Rev. Clemmons pastored various churches, sharing the Word with passion and conviction, and later became an associate pastor of Oak Grove M.B. Church, where he faithfully served even when his health declined.

Beyond his spiritual endeavors, Johnny was a proud patriot. After graduating from Motley High School in 1973, he answered the call to serve his nation, joining the military in 1974. He dedicated 21 years of his life to the U.S. Army and the Mississippi National Guard, embodying duty, honor, and courage.

In his professional life, Rev. Clemmons was a diligent and hardworking individual, laboring in various factories and companies, often stepping into leadership roles as a union official to advocate for his fellow workers. Yet, amidst his responsibilities, he found joy in simple pleasures. Johnny loved to mow grass, a task he undertook with care, and his profound love for preaching was evident in every sermon he delivered. He also enjoyed watching Gunsmoke with a cold Dr Pepper close at hand. Above all, he cherished his beloved wife and his children, pouring his heart into nurturing his family.

Rev. Clemmons was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Louise Clemmons; his dear daughter, Tenesa LaShawn Clemmons; and his three siblings, Lillie Mae (Andy) Tate, Lula Clemmons, and Charlie Clemmons, all of whom, we can imagine, were joyfully waiting to receive him in his heavenly home.

He was married in 1976 and spent many years building a family with his late wife. Together, they raised four children.

Rev. Clemmons leaves a rich legacy of love and cherished memories to his devoted wife, Tess McGee Clemmons of Columbus MS; his children Lance Lamar McGee, Cody McGee, Tiffany Nicole Clemmons, John Christopher Clemmons, Tierra Jenae Clemmons, Marcus Martis McGee, Shaquila McGee, Alesha Lashay McGee, Malcolm Lamar McGee, Makaila Leann McGee, and Tamara Ariel McGee. He is also survived by his two siblings, Willie Mae (John) Hansel and William (Diane) Clemmons; his grandson Jaylen Cann, Ayden Davis, and his special grandson Jordan D. McGee; his granddaughters, Madison T. Davis, Melonie T. Davis, McKensi T. Davis, Jiana M. Robinson, and Ava L. McGee; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Reverend Johnny Clemmons will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his steadfast commitment to his family and community, and his enduring spirit of service. His life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and dedication, and his memory will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
