Roosevelt Leigh, Sr., affectionately known as “Ruley,” was born in Columbus, MS, on February 1, 1942, to the late Angline Leigh and Robert E. Leigh, Sr. From an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, where his faith became the foundation of his life.

A faithful and devoted servant of God, Deacon Roosevelt Leigh, Sr. remained active in his church throughout his life. At Providence Missionary Baptist Church, he faithfully served as an usher (booster) and later as a deacon, carrying out his responsibilities with humility, dedication, and a heart for serving others.

In 1966, Roosevelt married the love of his life, Annette Henderson Leigh. Together, they built a loving home, raised two sons, and shared 59½ years of marriage, creating a legacy of love, commitment, and family devotion.

Roosevelt proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent 38 years employed with Omnova Solutions, where he faithfully worked until his retirement.

Education was important to Roosevelt. He attended Concord Elementary School and R.E. Hunt High School. In 1973, he furthered his education at East Mississippi Community College, where he studied diesel mechanics. He was also a proud member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge #10 of Columbus, Mississippi.

Roosevelt enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and treasured the time he spent outdoors. His favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, watching Western movies, and working on lawn mowers and cars. These pastimes brought him joy and created many cherished memories with family and friends.

On June 1, 2026, Roosevelt peacefully transitioned from labor to reward and entered into eternal rest with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Angline and Robert E. Leigh, Sr.; his sisters, Bobbie Lou Harrison and Melvina Hodge; and his brother, Robert E. Leigh, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife of 59½ years, Annette Leigh; his two sons, Demetrice (Natalie) Leigh and Roosevelt (Nina) Leigh, Jr.; his grandchildren, Jarvis, Rina, and Kelanda; his great-grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and love.

Roosevelt’s life was a testament to faith, service, hard work, and devotion to family. His quiet strength, warm spirit, and unwavering love for those around him will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
