Ruben Shelton entered this world to John and Mattie M. Shelton on August 8, 1947.  He was born and raised in Brooksville, MS and was the oldest of twelve siblings.  He accepted Christ at an early age at Union Chapel M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor O.L. Caldwell.  Ruben attended B.F. Liddell High School and graduated in 1966.  After high school, he relocated to Los Angeles, CA where he remained for 30 years. While in California, he began his employment with Author Bradford at Landscape Maintenance and Cecil Derrick Janitorial Maintenance. He was also employed with Latchford Glass Company, cooking glass to produce bottles and drinking glasses. Ruben also ventured into real estate and began entrepreneurship with rental properties he owned in Watts, CA.  After 30 years in California, Ruben relocated back to Mississippi in 1996. He continued to enjoy landscaping and later retired from Peco Foods in Brooksville, MS.

Ruben enjoyed listening to country and oldies music in his spare time. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his yard.

Ruben departed this life on March 20, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maggie B. Shelton.

Ruben's memories will forever be cherished by his siblings: L.V. Shelton of Wilmington, CA, Ernest Shelton of Brooksville, MS, Lillie Shelton of Columbus, MS, Hazel Shelton of Abilene, TX, Mary Shelton-Ross of Biloxi, MS, Willie James Shelton and Jimmie L. Shelton both of Brooksville, MS, Leon Shelton of Abilene, TX, John Earl Shelton of Cypress, CA, and Anthony Shelton of Long Beach, CA; his God-children, LeShonda Davis (Eric) of Katy, Texas,  Termaine (Bridget) Montgomery of San Diego, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
