Sammie Lee Mickens was born July 5,1951 in Noxubee County to the late Alfred and Fannie Mickens.

Sammie was a construction worker in Summit, New Jersey as a cement and brick masonry. He did odd jobs in his later years when he moved back to Noxubee County.

Sammie was a free spirit person and he never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Angie, Betty, Earnestine, Alice, Linda, George, Richard and Peter.

He leaves to cherish a son, Sammie (Shelly) Mickens, Jr., two grandchildren, Taylor and Emmage Mickens; one sister, Dorothy (Lamar) Mosley of Macon, MS; one brother, Alfred (Eillen) Mickens of Springfield, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Gladys Mickens Vaxhall of New Jersey; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
