Sammie Thomas was born February 4, 1946, in Columbus, MS to Christopher Columbus Thomas and Carrie Peoples. He confessed Christ at an early age and continued to live a Christian lifestyle. Sammie met and wedded the love of his life, Annie Ruth Sherrod on July 1, 1978. He spent his life dedicating his time to family, friends, building and repairing, and participating in church affairs. He was an employee of the Lowndes County School School District and Waste Management Services.
He served faithfully at Reform Temple C.O.G.I.C under the leadership of Supt. J.L. Hutton (Reform, AL), Miracle Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Pastor Robert Brown, Jr. (Columbus, MS), and Reform Community C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Pastor Henry Turnipseed. He served as a minister, teacher of Sunday School, Bible Band, YPWW, as well as an usher on the usher board.
Sammie departed this life on November 14, 2022 in Columbus, MS. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Annie Ruth Thomas; his daughter, LaTonia Marie Thomas-White; three sisters: Mildred Thomas, Mary Poindexter, and Jimmie Thomas; four brothers: J.D. Thomas, Walter Thomas, Carzell Thomas, and Eddie (Dean) Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his daughter, Jessica Thomas of Columbus, MS; a special daughter, Nichole Hodges of Houston, TX; special sons: Kelvin (Apryl) Sherrod of Houston, TX, Willie C. (Anika) Sherrod of Columbus, MS, John Walker of West Point, MS; his brothers: Albert Thomas and Gus Thomas both of Columbus, MS, Ben (Elise)Thomas of St. Louis, MO, and Lee (Lena) Thomas of Ruskin, FL; his grandchildren: LaTonia Thomas, Jamerra Sherrod, Anthony Hodges, Jr., Kelvin Sherrod II, Keinan Sherrod, Jayden Sherrod, Dylan Sherrod, Lamia Walker, and Ethan Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
