Obituary

A Time To Be Born…

On March 18, 1949, in Lowndes County Mississippi, Louise Fulgham and aAnderson Johnson Sr. were blessed with a son, Samuel Earl Johnson, and in his later years, he was affectionately called "Sam Boogie."


A Time To Seek God's Favor…

Sam confessed and accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Claiborne CME Church. He never wavered in his commitment, support, membership, love and loyalty to Claiborne CME Church. He was a life-long member. He served in several capacities at the church but was most noted for being a Deacon.


A Time To Be Educated…

Mr. Johnson obtained his education at Concord Elementary School and Hunt High School.


A Time To Serve His Country…

On September 2, 1971, Samuel Earl Johnson entered the United States Army. After the completion of basic training and technical training in Fort Carson, Colorado, Specialist Johnson received Orders to serve in Vietnam as an Aircraft Maintenance Apprentice, Phase I and AH-1G Helicopter Repairman. He served in Vietnam from September 1971 to September 1972. After returning home from Vietnam he transferred from the Army to the Army National Guard and served until December of 1973.


SPC Johnson personnel awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/6 Device, Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars, The Overseas Service Bars, One Service Stripe and the Expert Badge w/14-16 Rifle Bar.


A Time To Work…

After High School Sam worked at Airline Manufacturing Corp., Inc.  for a short period and decided the Military was where he needed to be. After his military duties he began his civilian employment at Hookers Chemical Corp in the Barrel Shop. He worked at United Technology until their closure. Not one to be idle, he started a new career at New Hope School System in maintenance and retired in 2011.

A Time To Play…

He was the neighborhood baseball coach where many learned their baseball skills. He LOVED gardening, raising a variety of vegetables and fruits and didn't mind sharing his crop. Sam Boogie was an avid spades card player. He enjoyed sitting in his yard (AKA The Spades House) under the trees playing spades with family and friends, and anyone who dared to challenge him. He would sit quietly, studying the cards in his hand and his partner's face before slapping his card on the table. They all loved his competitive nature. He loved family gatherings, especially celebrating his birthday with his cousin/sister "Cat," they danced and would listen to the Blues late into the night.


A Time To Rest…

Early on Thursday morning, March 21, 2024, he departed this life at home. Preceding Samuel in death, his mother and father, Louise Fulgham Henderson and Anderson Johnson Sr.; brother, Wallace Gregory and cousin/sister Sandra "Cat" Gordon.

A Time To Love And Cherish…

Sam was loved by many and the epitome of a family man, he was most supportive in his role as an grandfather to Jeremiah (Shalonda E), Kaporche and Mechanical.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of five years, Janice Marie Johnson; daughter, Catherine Renee Johnson; son, Antonio Brown; stepchildren, Nicole Brown, Lasandra (Kendell) Simmons, Rita (Sterling) Gunn, Theresa Smith, Bennie Deloach, Terrance Deloach, Veda Deloach, Christopher (Bridgette) Deloach, Eric (Jasmine) Green, Erica Green and Diamond Lowe; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Siblings, Emma Johnson; James (Martha) Gregory, Thaddis Henderson, Freddie (Violet) Henderson, Anderson Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Bobbie Johnson, Deloris Johnson, Rosa Davis, Gloria Johnson, Joyce Bankhead, Isola Gregory and Bertha Cheeks; lifetime friend, John W. (Mary Lou) Bradley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends.
