Obituary

Scherrell B.Sturdivant was born November 24, 1951 to Robert and Dorothy Bishop in Starkville, MS. She dedicated her life to God at a young age and was a longtime member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church. She loved to prepare food for loved ones and enjoyed a career at Columbus Municipal School District where she worked in the cafeteria for more than 20 years. She and Will Ellis Sturdivant were married and at a young age, and she raised her boys and younger siblings after the loss of her parents. Scherrell was involved in numerous community organizations. Her love for children kept her active as a nursery attendant at First Presbyterian Church for over 20 years. She was a loving, supportive mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, and friend to those who knew her.


Sis. Sturdivant began her female masonic auxillary in 1976 with Queen Ester Court #405. Throughout the years she also served in other affiliations including: Queen of Sheba #431(1977), Brooksville Assembly #171 Order of Golden Circle(1978), Hopewell Chapter #250 O.E.S., Royal West Point Court #17 Order of Cyrene(1980). Sis Sturdivant once held office as the Past Most Grand Commandress of Magnolia Royal Grand Court of Cyrene, Prince Hall Affiliation Jurdication of MS.

Sis. Scherrell Sturdivant transitioned to eternal rest on November 10, 2022 in  Columbus, MS.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie. E. Sturdivant; son, Marcell Bishop; siblings, Melvin Bishop, John A. Bishop, Jessie Bishop, Diane Wells, Peggy Benson, Dorothy McDavid, James, Bishop and John Bishop.

Sis. Sturdivant's memories will forever be cherished by: her children, Andrew (Deborah) Bishop, Sr. and Tiffany (Marty) Turner both of Columbus, MS; four sisters, Una Bishop of Columbus, MS, Mary Dell Bishop of Tampa, FL, Arvetia Bishop of Gulfport, MS and Suzanna Bradley of Starkville, MS; her grandchildren, Marcell Bishop, Jr., Andrew Bishop, Jr., Andrea Bishop, Gerald Baldwin, Eric Lloyd II, and Nathan Lloyd; one great-grandchild, Kaden Bishop; and a host of other relatives and friends.
