Sharon R.
Hughes
October 5, 1968 – May 5, 2025
Sharon Rena "Big Momma" Hughes' life began on October 5, 1968 at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon, MS.
She blessed our lives with her presence, though now it feels like just a glimpse in time. It's often said, but with genuine intent – a soul taken too soon. For fifty-six years, she graced her family with precious moments and unwavering love. Her warming and inviting spirit, infectious personality, and unmatched wisdom left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Many of those cherished moments were marked by a warm embrace, a stern look, or a shared meal – expressions of love that linger in our hearts. Born to parents Juanita Dora and John E. Koger, she carried forward a legacy of love, a guiding light in our lives, gone too soon but never forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Dora; father, John E. Koger; daughter, Syrina Dora; sister, Annette Dora Taylor; brother, Charlie Koger and Nelson Koger.
Sharon transitioned from this life on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Diversicare in Ripley, MS.
She leaves to cherish her memories of her hearts of love: her spouse, Alphonso Hughes Sr of Columbus, MS; daughter, Yolanda Dora of Jackson, MS; son, Alphonso Hughes Jr. of Alexandria, VA; sister, Parine Gray of Crawford, MS, Annie B. Latham, Rebecca Dora of Columbus, MS, Dorothy (Jesse) Dent of Brooksville, MS; brother, John C. Dora of Brooksville, MS; sisters-in-law, Elaine McGee, Rosetta Jones (Willie B) of Columbus, MS; Gwendolyn Hughes of Jackson, MS; brothers-in-law, Jimmy L. Taylor of Brooksville, MS, Henry Hughes III, James Hughes of Jackson, MS, David Hughes of Picayune, MS, Alonzo Hughes (Cassandra) of Norristown, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. She leaves to cherish her best friend of twenty years, Ethel Macon of Columbus, MS.
