Obituary

The life and legacy of Taft Handy, will be remembered by many.  A young country boy left Mayersville, Mississippi at an early age determined to have a better life.  To know him is to know him as a man who loved and of great respect.  He traveled the upper Midwest areas of the country before he settled in Cleveland, Ohio.  It is here that he made his life as a truck driver and settled down with his loving wife of 23 years before her passing.  He was a trucker for over 40 years, he traveled all over the country working hard to make a good life for his family.  To know him is to know he loved his "Down Home Blues". He marveled at the thought of being related to W.C. Handy because of his great fascination with the Blues. As we remember him, we have to mention that he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grands.  He was proud of each of their successes and traveled to be apart as much as he could.

The legacy of Taft Handy Jr. began in Mayersville, Mississippi on January 11, 1941.  He was born to the late Taft Sr. and Malinda Handy. He was the third of six children born of this union.  His last breath was taken on August 10, 2022 at the home of Vivian Nelson, his loving sister. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Handy; and two brothers: Tom and Samuel Handy.

Taft leaves to mourn seven children: Loria Everett (W.C.), Frank Reed, Mary Herbert, Cheryl Thomas, Reginald West (Cordelia), Lashawn Watkins (Master), and Toyette Handy.

Four Siblings: Theodore Handy (Lisa), Yvonne Johnson, Alice Williams, Vivian Nelson (Carl "d"); and a Sister-in-law Odessa Handy.  Twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close dedicated family and friends.
