Tommie Lee
Harris, Sr.
July 23, 1945 – December 16, 2025
The adventure began on July 23, 1945, when Tommie Lee Harris, Sr. was born in the Concord community of Columbus, Mississippi, to the late Willie James Harris and Florence Phinizee Harris. From the very start, his life was rooted in faith, family, and quiet strength. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Concord Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (Concord Independent Methodist Episcopal), —a faith that would guide every road he traveled. He attended Concord Elementary and R.E. Hunt High Schools, where the foundation of his steady character, strong work ethic, and gentle spirit was formed. Even then, Tommie was known as quiet and soft-spoken, never seeking attention, yet always dependable, kind, and present.
As the journey unfolded, Tommie Lee found joy in the simple and meaningful things of life. He became a gifted farmer, faithfully tending corn, peas, and cucumbers. He found peace in horseback and motor cycle riding, embracing the freedom of open land and familiar trails. As a proud member of the Cycle Slaves motorcycle club, he cherished his beloved 750 Honda motorcycle and his classic blue GTO, symbols of freedom, craftsmanship, and quiet passion for adventure.
A Life of Faithful Service - Guided by faith, Tommie Lee believed deeply in service. A faithful steward in the church, he served diligently on the finance committee and was trusted for his integrity, wisdom, and commitment. He believed in working behind the scenes, ensuring that what needed to be done was done well. He was employed with Johnson Tombigbee and Air Line Manufacturing, where his strong work ethic and reliability were well known.
Those Who Welcomed Him Home - Tommie Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Willie James Harris and Florence Phinizee Harris; his son, Tommie Lee Harris, Jr.; granddaughter, Taylor Lea Harris; sisters, Star Lee Harris and Ida Mae Coley; brother, Willie C Harris; and uncles, Jack Harris and William "Willie" Blaine Phinizee.
The Legacy He Leaves Behind - Tommie leaves to cherish his memories former wife, Catherine Thompson Harris of Columbus, MS; his children: Damon Harris of St. Robert, MO; Darryl (Samantha) Harris of Columbus, MS; and Terrica Chandler of Manassas, MD; daughter-in-law, Katetria Harris of Columbus, MS; grandchildren: Quincy Antonio Harris of Montgomery, AL; Ranzino Ahmad Harris, Christopher Jackson, and Dyesha Jackson, all of Columbus, MS, Morgan Chase, Mariah Ntah, and Roland Ntah of Manassas, MD; great-grandchildren: Raina Autumn Harris and Rayah Aubrey Harris of Atlanta, GA, Leyah Christine Jackson, Adalynn Elyse Jackson, Kingston Elijah Harris, Carmen Elise Jackson, and Kennedi Lea Davis all of Columbus, MS; siblings: Geraldine Harris (James) Petty of Columbus, MS; Ira Harris of Chicago, IL; Odis Will Harris, Sylvester Harris, and Dian Harris (Hal) Patmon, all of Columbus, MS; and great-uncle, John "Jack" Phinizee. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Journey's End - On December 16, 2025, at 12:53 p.m., Tommie Lee Harris, Sr. peacefully transitioned from this life. Though his voice was soft, the impact of his life speaks loudly through the land he nurtured, the roads he traveled, the faith he upheld, and the family he loved so deeply.
