Vanessa" Super Chicken"Wilburn was born on June 2, 1954 to Annie B. McCarter and A.W. Lowery in Crawford, MS. She departed her earthly home on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Vanessa attended Crawford Elementary and Moor High Schools. She worked as a seamstress with Redcap Industries until her retirement.
Vanessa accepted Christ at an early age by joining Oakland M.B. Church leadership of Rev. Cockrell. She was an active member until her illness. Vanessa loved to cook, music, and dancing. She was called super chicken because oh her unique skills on the basketball court. She always a joyful and fun person. She never met a stranger. She touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her trademark smile was contagious with her laughter and humorous demeanor. She enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Preceding her in transition were her daughter, Beverly Wilburn; sister, Marcenia Wilburn; Brothers: Larry Bridges, Booker Wilburn, A.W. Lowery, Jr., Caleb Lowery, Willie James Lowery, and Eugene Hairston.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her children: Ronald Wilburn of Wichita, KS, Kasandra (Herbert) Alexander of Hiram, GA, Courtland (Tiffani) Wilburn of Cordele, GA, Carlo Wilburn of Starkville, MS, Michael (Annie) Wilburn of West Point, MS, Katina Wilburn, Tyrone Wilburn, and Reggie Wilburn all of Crawford, MS; her sisters: Dorothy Sanders and Fannie Turner both of Columbus, MS, Diane Clayton, of Artesia, MS, Mary Helen Bishop of Starkville, MS, Stacy Colom and Bernice Jordan both of Crawford, MS, Adell McFadden of Tearkana, TX, Betty Jean Hendricks of Bridgeport, CT, Vera Blackmon of Evansville, IN; Leon McCarter and Walter Lowery both of Crawford, MS, Roy Hairston of Columbus, MS, Rev. Willie Hairston of Starkville, MS, and J.B. Hairston of Dayton, OH; special sister, Brenda Evans of Crawford, MS; 28 grandchildren; 5 great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
