Annie "Grace"
Lewis
October 8, 1950 – May 15, 2024
Annie Grace Danner Lewis was born on October 8, 1950, to Henry Danner and Lillie Bell Smith Danner. She was the fifth of nine children, and one of three girls. Born and raised in Hamilton, Mississippi, she embarked on a lifelong journey of learning and teaching. After graduating from Jackson State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, she dedicated 30 years of her life to enlightening young minds in the classroom. Her passion for teaching was not just a profession but a calling, one that she pursued with unwavering dedication and an infectious enthusiasm that inspired both her colleagues and students alike.
In 1971, she married Larry Lewis, marking the beginning of a partnership that would span over five decades. Together, they welcomed three sons into the world, raising them with love, laughter, and the invaluable lesson of the importance of education and family.
Her home was always filled with joy, especially during holidays and family gatherings throughout each year. These occasions were made even more special by the addition of four beloved daughters-in-laws and eleven adored grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness and pride.
Her laughter was contagious, her presence uplifting, and her dedication to her family unwavering. She was the heart of every celebration and the warm hug that comforted in times of need. Her influence extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of everyone she encountered with her kindness, wisdom, and grace.
Even in retirement, she continued to be an active participant in her grandchildren's lives, never missing an opportunity to support them in their endeavors, whether it was cheering from the sidelines, applauding at recitals, or celebrating their academic achievements.
We take solace in knowing that her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched, both in and out of the classroom. Her teachings, both academic and life lessons, will continue to inspire generations to come. Her laughter and love will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved and the many lives she enriched.
Family members preceding her in death are parents Henry Danner Sr. and Lillie Bell Danner, and her three brothers, Charles Danner of Washington, DC, Lester Danner of Columbus, MS and Jerry Danner of Jackson, MS.
She leaves to cherish her memory husband Larry Lewis along with three sons, Eric Lewis (Amanda) of Columbus, Jonathan Lewis (Cecora) of Huntsville, AL, and Andrew Lewis (Kim) of Huntsville, AL. Two sisters, Dorothy Bradley (Thomas) of Columbus, MS and Phelisa Spencer of Capitol Heights, MD.
