Obituary

Bennie Will Harris, Sr. was born on June 30, 1961 in Lowndes County to the late Thelma Harris and Woodrow McBride. He departed this life on August 29, 2024. Brother Bennie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Concord CME Methodist Church, where he was a member until his passing. In addition to his parents, Bennie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sheila Davis, bonus parents, Ben Harris and John Ed Taylor, his brothers Willie B. Harris, Sr. (Tangiel), Jimmie McBride, Woodrow McBride, Jr., and Tommie Lee McBride, his nephew, Le'Shun Andrew Harris, aunts Mary Lee Ball and Inell Manning, and his cousin James T. Ball.

Bennie received his high school education at Caldwell High School. While here, he was a trailblazer on the football field. Bennie was scouted by numerous high-profile universities, recognized as an all-around MVP student on and off the field, and was looking towards a prospective career in the NFL. Bennie went on to play college football under a NCAA school, and only returned back to Columbus after his Mother cried about missing her baby. Once back in Columbus, he worked several jobs, though his longest tenure was working at Airline Manufacturing. His most recent employer was Tuffline.

Bennie was united in marriage to Sheila Davis for 33 years and through this union, four children were born. He was a smart, generous, laid back, caring, sweetheart, and a true gentleman. Bennie was always there with a smile and helping hand. In his spare time, he enjoyed creating memories around his barbecue grill, being around family and friends every chance he got, and watching sports on the big screen as Bennie was the biggest STEELERS fan ever!

He leaves to cherish his memories and continue his legacy: 4 beautiful children, RaShanita S. Davis, Keyanca K. Davis, Bennie W. Harris, Jr., and Sherika L. Davis; 14 grandchildren;  1 great-grandchild; 14 siblings, Bettie Walker (Roosevelt), Jacqueline Turner (Chris), Johnny Harris, Diane Thomas (Lee), Marcus Harris (Sharon), Hiyon Harris, Janice Dotson, Betty Beckwith, Rebecca Mason, Lula McBride, Linda McBride, James McBride, William McBride, and Tony McBride; Brothers from Other Mothers, Angelo Pollard, James Flower, Melvin Summerville, Jake Thomas, Bill Brewer, and Doc.
