Obituary

Bertha Lee Gibson, born on January 13, 1941, in Columbus, Mississippi, to Andrew and Rosie Bell Gibson.  A dedicated educator, Bertha made a lasting impact as a school teacher for 34 years in the Columbus Municipal School District, where she inspired countless students.

As a proud graduate of R. E. Hunt, where she was the valedictorian of the class of 1960, Bertha continued her education at Philander Smith University, earning her bachelor's degree, and furthered her studies with a master's degree from Jackson State University. Her commitment to education was a cornerstone of her life.

Bertha was also a founding chapter member of Nu Epsilon of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she actively participated in various initiatives to uplift her community. She was a beloved member of New Zion M. B. Church, where she served as the Financial Recording Secretary, demonstrating her dedication to both her faith and her community.

Known for her warm spirit, Bertha was particularly recognized for her thoughtful tradition of sending Christmas cards to friends and family, spreading joy and connection throughout the years. A devoted Christian, she confessed her faith at an early age and carried it with her throughout her life, serving as a guiding light to those around her.

Bertha is preceded in death by her parents.

Bertha leaves to cherish her loving memories to her siblings, Tommie Lee Gibson and Annie G. Richardson both of Columbus, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bertha leaves behind a legacy of excellence, service, and love. Her impact on her family, students, and community will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
