Bertha Colvin Heard, a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in GT. Born on January 4, 1956 in Columbus, Ms to Floyd and Emma Colvin, Bertha’s life was a testament to love, dedication and joy.
Raised in Columbus, Bertha embraced her faith at an early age, confessing her hope in Christ at Northside M. B. Church. Her love for family was evident in the cherished moments spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
A nurturing spirit, Bertha dedicated ten years caring for her mother. Her passion for crafting, gardening and an affinity for scary movies brought her immense happiness and reflected her vibrant personality.
Professionally, Bertha made her mark in various roles, working for Microtex, Johnston Tombigbee, as a counselor for Columbus Air Force Base youth center, and as a teacher’s aide. She concluded her career as an Assistant Manager for the stock crew at Winn Dixie, where her work ethic and kindness left a lasting impression.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Nicole Yvette Colvin, and her siblings, Samuel Conner, Walter Harris Jr., Floyd Colvin Jr., Billy Colvin, Tina Colvin and Laverne Colvin, her aunts, Callie Coggins, Josie Horton, Mattie Boga and Roxie Brown, her uncles, Edward Colvin, Ellis Colvin, Tommie “Boot” Williams, and Earl Williams.
She is survived by her husband, Willie C. Heard, her daughter, Garnesha Colvin (Keith) Martin, her aunts, Berniece Morton and Martha Harris, her siblings, Arthur (Gloria) Conner, Bobby (Pamela) Colvin, Ronnie Colvin, Tony Colvin, Alvin Colvin, Joyce Hairston and Elizabeth Colvin, three grandchildren, Darren Riggs, Dorien Martin and Derek Martin, two great grandchildren, Dream C. Riggs and Derek Martin Jr.; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cherished friends who will miss her dearly.
As we remember Bertha, let us celebrate her life - a life rich with love and kindness. She will continue to live on in our hearts and memories.
