Cendie Will
Hall
August 12, 1940 – January 7, 2026
Cendie Will Hall, 85, of Columbus, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Born August 12, 1940, in Columbus to Henry Bailey and Ollie Mae Harris, Cendie spent her life surrounded by family, faith, and friends who came to rely on her steady hands and warm heart.
Cendie was raised in Columbus and carried the values of home — hard work, kindness, and loyalty — into every part of her life. From an early age she loved gathering with family and friends; her home was a place where people felt welcome and comforted. Above all, she treasured her roles as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and family was the center of everything she did.
Cendie's skill and care in the kitchen were her hallmark. For many years she worked as a cook at MUW and at Magnolia Manor, where her cooking nourished students, residents, and coworkers alike. Later she worked as a domestic worker, bringing the same diligence, respect, and pride to every household she served. Her coworkers remember her for her dependability, gentle humor, and insistence that there was always room for one more helping.
A lifelong and devoted member of Piney Grove M.B. Church, Cendie gave generously of her time and talents to her faith community. She served as head of the kitchen committee for many years, organizing meals for church events, funerals, and outreach efforts. Her hospitality became a ministry — through food, comfort, and presence she helped hold the church family together in times of joy and sorrow.
Cendie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: old movie shows that brought back memories of earlier days, loud family dinners, and afternoons spent sharing stories and laughter. Those who loved her will remember her warm welcome, the smell of home cooking, and the quiet steadiness she brought to every room. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched — in the family recipes she passed down, in the kindness she modeled, and in the countless small acts of care that became the fabric of her community.
Cendie is preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Bertha Moore and Dorothy Bailey and three siblings, Henry Bailey, Jr., Freddie Bailey and Louisa Smith
She is survived by her children, Linda (Dave) Talley of Valdosta, GA, Gladys (Willie) Harris and Daishon Bailey both of Columbus, MS, and Yvette (Matthias) Jamison of Steen, MS; one sister, Bessie Prowell of Columbus, MS; 18 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
